On latin word variations

The Latin language has been in use for over two thousand years, and it's not surprising that variations in spelling have crept into the language.

Some variations in Latin spellings

  • gladius, gladī or gladius, gladiī
  • ingenium ingenī or ingenium, ingeniī
  • Until 31 BCE, Nouns ending -ius and -ium were declined in the genitive as -ī
